Iowa Behavioral Alliance

The Iowa Department of Education’s Iowa Behavioral Alliance represents a collaborative effort among Drake’s School of Education, Iowa State University (ISU) Research Institute for Studies in Education (RISE), ISU Extension 4-H Youth Development, the University of Iowa, and the Iowa Federation for Children’s Mental Health. Evaluation of the Iowa Behavioral Alliance for Children and Youth is undertaken through a collaborative effort of the RISE at ISU and by the ISU 4-H Youth Development Program. These units at ISU combine their services and staff to provide a thorough and ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of the Positive Behavioral Supports (PBS) model. The evaluation of the effectiveness of this component is based on a quasi-experimental design that combines quantitative and qualitative data. Researchers analyze quantitative data from standardized achievement tests and school records of discipline referrals, suspensions and expulsions, as well as qualitative data from focus groups and interviews with administrators, faculty and students. The evaluation is in its final year of a five-year project scheduled to end December 2007.
