Advancing Teaching of Middle School Science (ATOMS2)
|
The ATOMS2 program was developed by the Center for Educational and Training Technology (CETT) at Mississippi State University (MSU), whose primary goal is to enhance K-12 classroom experiences to bring about increased student achievement. The ATOMS2 project combines the expertise of distinguished professors of Biological Sciences, Geosciences, and Physics, the instructional skills of exemplary secondary teachers, and the technology skill of the CETT in a program that deepens the content knowledge, pedagogical skills, and technology-integration skills of 7th and 8th grade science teachers from across Mississippi. Fifteen teachers participated in 2006-2007. RISE completed the 2006-2007 evaluation of the ATOMS2 project, which showed (1) science teachers improved their knowledge of science content and pedagogy and (2) students increased their achievement scores in science subject areas. RISE has recently contracted to conduct the evaluation of ATOMS2 through 2009-2010.
