Evaluation of Student Oral Proficiency Assessment (SOPA)

In July 2006, RISE completed the evaluation of a web-based course use to train foreign language educators to use the Student Oral Proficiency Assessment (SOPA). The SOPA relies on innovative language proficiency assessment instruments designed to allow young students to demonstrate their highest level of performance in oral fluency, grammar, vocabulary, and listening comprehension. The evaluation consisted of the following activities—review of the D2L website and facilitated discussion, interviews for the pilot conducted in Fall 2005, surveys of pilot non-completers, surveys of field test completers and non-completers, feedback on course modules, and final course evaluation. A final report was prepared and submitted to the Center for Applied Linguistics.
