Early Reading First

 

Early Reading First is a three-year project funded by the U. S. Department of Education, Office of Elementary and Secondary Education. This project is intended to upgrade the quality of five Des Moines child care programs into Early Reading First (ERF) preschools through the implementation of research-based instructional strategies to increase children’s oral language, phonological awareness, print awareness, and alphabet knowledge. RISE assessed the students attending the Des Moines child care programs in the fall and spring of the year utilizing the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT) and also collaborated with the ERF administrator in the writing of annual federal reports.
