Evaluation of the Community College Summit Initiative Program (CCSIP)

Funded by the U. S. Department of State and based at Kirkwood Community College (IA), CCSIP is working with six partner community colleges to offer intensive and comprehensive community college experience to 83 students from six countries (Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan, South Africa, and Turkey). The students are participating in a program of study for either 12 or 21 months and live with host families for part of that time. The goals of the program are that students develop intercultural and workforce skills, improve their written and spoken proficiency in English, gain the knowledge and experience enabling them to contribute to the growth and prosperity of their home nations, and develop an appreciation for U. S. and democratic principles. RISE has been contracted to conduct the evaluation, with a project period of February 2007 to December 2009. Evaluation activities for Year 1 include participating in planning meetings; preparing a detailed evaluation plan and calendar of evaluation activities; developing and conducting numerous surveys and interviews for students, host families, and community college personnel; analyzing institutional research data; and reporting results of the evaluation.
